A Week at a Time | 9/16/16

When life gets crazy and exciting and things change, I write. It’s always been this way for me. And so as an extension of this, I am going to have a weekly, here’s a little bit of life, post. I would love to say what this will include, but who knows! From working in college ministry to life as a part time nanny. Date nights and soccer games on the weekend. Reading and drinking coffee to cleaning the turtle tank and squeezing in a run. Just taking a moment to look back before plunging into the weekend!

This week is a start of some mellowing/forming of an almost routine in my schedule, I think. I hope. With the fall semester starting, the last couple weeks (months) have been all about college ministry. And they have been full to the brim with work (and squeezing in a long weekend in Cape Cod), and really, I have been loving it. So much planning and big picture work mixed with details and nitty gritty. It has been a continuous lesson in balance and decision making. So this week we are finally getting into the groove of the semester. And that’s exciting. I can’t wait to see what the next few months are going to look like. Ministry is fun! It is an adventure every single day.

I just finished reading Brooklyn, and I really enjoyed it. It started out slow, but in the kind of way I like. I waited to watch the movie until finishing the book, and I am glad I did. This was one of those rare situations where the movie follows the book (I think) really well. Biggest difference: the ending. But I can understand that. I won’t tell you, but I will encourage you to (especially if you’ve seen the movie already) get the book and see what you think.

I think I may have spent 47.8% of my free time looking at fashion feeds on Instagram this last week. I am ready for fall. I am on the lookout for the perfect booties and am keeping my fingers crossed that the extra rain we’ve gotten this summer will make for a colorful Autumn.

Speaking of looks, I was walking out of the store after squeezing in a bit of shopping one evening, and woah. This beauty was stretching across the sky and it was so, so vivid. I love when a little rain storm comes late in the afternoon, just in time to roll out while the sun sets. It makes for an amazing show! Rainbows are never not encouraging to me. My sweet Savior is a promise keeper, and He is faithful to remind us.

It’s been a hot minute since I have last gone grocery shopping (I won’t say exactly how many weeks). Every time I would start to stop by, I couldn’t bring myself to actually pull in as it always seemed to be during the busiest part of the day (I said the schedule’s been full to the brim lately). This week I had a bit of time after nanny duty and before heading to the office. So I stopped by, got a latte at the Starbucks, and enjoyed picking out all the produce as it was being put out fresh. I like the 8am grocery crowd. It’s just me and the employees and nobody has had to deal with unhappy customers yet and everyone is chipper. Bonus: brussel sprout stalks for $2!

“That’s part of the challenge of stewarding a calling, for all of us: you get it wrong sometimes. And part of stewarding that calling is sometimes taking down some chairs. We have more authority, and therefore, more responsibility than we think. We decide where the time goes. There’s so much freedom in that, and so much responsibility.”

This weekend includes a baby shower, a wedding shower, and a soccer game. And I am so excited that besides that, I have the weekend to myself. I fully intend to set aside some time to be still, to read and just maybe enjoy some solo adventuring. Also, planning to freshen up the feel of my bedroom with some wall collaging and plenty of clean, white accents.
