I wasn’t sure what to expect from this book. It turned out to be the perfect mix of light, laughter read and thought provoking, ponder read.
Written by Donald Miller about a road trip from Texas to Oregon in a VW bus with a guy he barely knew. It’s truly inspiring to follow along and watch as his world expands and his mind is stretched. To see his eyes opened to new ways of life and in the process learn who he is and what he wants his own walk through life to look like. Miller gives such a true feel for where he was emotionally and spiritually as well as physically that the reader really feels as though they are in the backseat of the van rumbling down the road with them.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book! It was an easy read, but truly one that made you think. Not in a, man, I need to take a break from this, it’s deep, kind of way. But rather in a wow, I never thought about it that way, kind of way. A good follow up to all the ins and outs and ups and downs of travel misadventures that was my last read, Travels with Myself and Another. And during my cruise I jumped head first into The Art of Travel, and it is a thinker. I’ll tell you all about it soon, but in the meantime, pick up a copy of Through Painted Deserts and extend that sun shining, windows down, bare feet on the dashboard, good summer feeling just a little bit longer!
